A new social enterprise called Lensational is empowering marginalised women in developing countries through photography, allowing them to share their lives and have their voices heard by giving them cameras and training.
“This idea came when I was travelling in Turkey in Istanbul. Like every tourist, I was using my camera [when] four Turkish girls came up to me and were interested to look at my camera and see if they could also learn photography,” Lensational founder Bonnie Chiu told the ABC’s The World program.
Ms Chiu then noticed that although they could communicate in English, it was through photography that deeper more universal ideas were communicated between the two strangers.
